An online police complaint has been lodged against Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee at Rabindra Sarovar Police Station. The complaint, which was copied to the Joint Commissioner and Commissioner of Kolkata Police, accuses Banerjee of delivering an instigating speech on July 21, urging his supporters to "gherao" (surround) the residences of BJP Karyakartas and leaders.
From Saheed Diwas stage, Abhishek said, “I announce from here after taking the permission of our leader Mamata Banerjee. The way BJP is stopping our funds (to the state) - we will go to Delhi on 2nd October, on the day of Gandhi Jayanti...On 5th August, we will gherao all BJP leaders' houses peacefully.”
The complaint, filed by a concerned citizen, alleges that the speech delivered by Abhishek Banerjee during a public gathering on the said date incited violence and posed a threat to the law and order situation in the region. The contents of the speech were said to be inflammatory, targeting political rivals and encouraging aggressive action against them.
The Joint Commissioner and Commissioner of Kolkata Police have been brought into the loop to ensure that the complaint receives appropriate attention and investigation.
