A five-member fact-finding team comprising women members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) visited Amta in Howrah district, continuing their investigation into violence against women during the recent panchayat polls in West Bengal. The visit comes in the wake of allegations of attacks on BJP workers in various panchayats of Amta Vidhansabha after the elections.
The team, consisting of Rama Devi, Kavita Patidar, Aparajita Sharangi, Sandhya Roy, and Saroj Pandey, arrived in Amta on Wednesday morning. Their primary objective was to assess the situation and gather information regarding the reported incidents of violence. During their visit, the fact-finding committee accused the ruling party of being involved in the burning of houses and attacks on BJP workers in the area. The team visited the affected areas, investigating the alleged incidents of violence.
Taking a critical stance against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Rama Devi took a swipe at her governance style, suggesting that she should learn from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on how to develop rural communities effectively.
The team's findings are likely to add to the ongoing debate surrounding the conduct of panchayat elections and the alleged incidents of violence against women and opposition party workers in the state.
