Indian student ‘brutally beaten’ with iron rod by Khalistan supporters in Sydney

An Indian student in Sydney, Australia, was brutally attacked by a mob of Khalistan separatists on Friday. Swapnil Singh (name changed) said in a report he was attacked in Westmead, a Western Sydney suburb.

Claiming to be an international student, Swapnil was on his way to work when the mob allegedly attacked him with iron rods. He was hit in the left side of the face with a stick.

“This morning at 5:30 am when I was going to work, I was attacked by 4-5 Khalistan supporters. I work as a driver and my vehicle was parked just 50 meters from where I live. As soon as I sat in my driver's seat, these Khalistan supporters came out of nowhere,” Australia Today quoted Swapnila as saying.

He claimed that one of the assailants opened the left side door of the vehicle and hit him in the cheekbone below the left eye with an iron road.

"Then they opened the driver's door, pulled me out of the car, and started beating me with iron rods. Two of them were recording a video on their phones while 4-5 were beating me from all sides,” he added.

He claimed that the crowd repeatedly raised the slogan "Chalistan Zindabad".

He was later taken to Westmead Hospital with serious injuries to his head, leg, and arm. "Shortly after 5.40 am on Friday 14 July 2023, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended Rupert Street, Merrylands West following reports of an assault," a NSW Police spokesman said in a statement.

The Indian government has not yet officially commented on the matter.
