Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's 'Bawaal' trailer has World War II references

The trailer for Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming romantic film 'Bawaal' featuring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor was released on Sunday.

The film, which will bypass a theatrical release, is set to premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video India on July 21. The trailer showcases a different tone compared to the previously released teaser.

In the trailer, Varun Dhawan portrays a small-town guy who tries to win over Janhvi Kapoor's character. The two appear to have contrasting preferences, from their choice of luxury cars to their favorite weather. The story then takes a turn as Varun takes Janhvi on a trip to Europe, visiting cities that were significant during World War II.

Although the context surrounding the references to the historical event is not entirely clear, the trailer makes recurring allusions to Adolf Hitler and mentions a "world war within."

The teaser of 'Bawaal,' unveiled earlier in the week, generated some controversy due to its imagery of gas chambers, Nazi Germany, and the Holocaust. While some viewers criticized the teaser for potentially romanticizing the Holocaust, others urged caution and suggested reserving judgment until watching the complete film.

Co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Nitesh Tiwari under Earthsky Pictures, 'Bawaal' is set in the heartland of India and takes audiences on an unprecedented journey through Europe.

The film aims to have a global appeal, and the decision to premiere on Amazon Prime Video is seen as a means to reach audiences both in India and worldwide.
