Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary has accused both PM Modi and CM Mamata Banerjee of colluding in the violence during West Bengal's Panchayat elections
Chowdhary demanded the election's cancellation, citing a nexus between the ruling party and the police, highlighting the atmosphere of terror and alleged booth looting, questioning the need for bloodshed
Chowdhary anticipated the BJP capitalizing on sympathy from the violence, but emphasized that the people of Bengal are closely watching the situation
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary has made serious allegations that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are colluding regarding the violence during the Panchayat elections in West Bengal.
Chowdhary demanded the cancellation of the election following the violence that occurred. He claimed that there is a nexus between the ruling party and the police in the entire state of Bengal. The ongoing Panchayat elections have resulted in the deaths of around 25 to 26 people, with thousands more injured and hospitalized.
Expressing his concerns, Chowdhary questioned the need for such bloodshed during the Panchayat elections and criticized the open looting occurring in front of the police and media personnel. He highlighted the atmosphere of terror being created, with people being warned not to vote due to potential dangers.
Chowdhary further accused the police of being silent spectators and alleged the involvement of presiding officers in facilitating fraudulent voting. He expressed frustration with the situation, stating that such tactics have become commonplace in Bengal, and after the looting, Mamata Banerjee will make grand speeches.
The delayed deployment of central police forces was also raised as a significant concern by Chowdhary. He claimed that there is a scam in the deployment process and accused Modi of colluding with Mamata. Chowdhary argued that the BJP saw the weakening of its organization in Bengal and believed that giving Mamata a chance to loot would create a narrative for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP would seek sympathy from the people.
Referring to the previous Panchayat elections, Chowdhary claimed that BJP won 18 seats by capitalizing on the sympathy generated due to the violence. He anticipated a similar strategy from the BJP this time as well. Despite uncertainties regarding alliances, Chowdhary emphasized that the people of Bengal are closely observing the situation.
Alleging that booth looting had already begun, Chowdhary asserted that ballot boxes arrived at the booths only the previous night. He claimed that under the leadership of the ruling party, no election in Bengal, especially Panchayat elections, can be free and fair. Such incidents have become customary in municipal corporations as well as Panchayats, according to Chowdhary.
