The 18-member Indian boys and girls teams led by Jharkhand national coach Sachin Rana have left for the Asian Junior Badminton Championship scheduled to begin in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from July 7 to July 16.
Badminton Association of India (BAI) joint secretary K Prabhakar Rao said that in the Asian Junior Badminton Championship, the team championship will be played first followed by the individual events.
Jharkhand's ace national team coach Sachin Rana has again been appointed as one of the coaches of the Indian contingents. He was also one of the coaching team members in the players' coaching camp held in Chandigarh before his departure to Indonesia.
Rana's selection as the national coach remains significant as he was Lakshya Sen's bench coach at the 2015 Badminton World Junior Championships held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) where he became the world champion.
“Indian teams are balanced. All the boys and girls are capable enough to bring the expected results in the team championships as well as in the individual competitions,” he said before his flight to Indonesia.
Jharkhand's Sachin Rana has the credit of leading the Indian senior and junior teams in several international tournaments and has taken the responsibility of imparting training in the national camps.
Officials of the Jharkhand State Badminton Association and district authorities have congratulated Sachin Rana on his new assignment and expressed hope that he will repeat his performance as a coach for the nation.
