Assam Rifles arrests one person with heroin worth Rs 1.1 Cr

Assam Rifles arrests one person with heroin worth Rs 1.1 Cr

An individual carrying over 276 gm of heroin worth Rs 1.1 million in the international market was nabbed by the Assam Rifles and police in a combined operation, an official said on Tuesday.

Acting on information about the drug trade, the Radhanagar battalion of the Assam Rifles and policemen from the Jirighat police station in Assam's Chachar district conducted a joint operation on Monday.

“The task force detained one person along with 276.1 gm of heroin with an approximate value of Rs. 1.1 Cr from general area of ​​Lalpani, under Jirighat PS, Cachar District, Assam,” said an Assam Rifles official.

The source said the Jirighat police station received the person and the seized materials later for further investigation and legal action. In a successful operation earlier on Sunday, Assam Rifles (East) recovered 150 bags of illegal areca nuts along with 33 grams of heroin and one worth Rs. 1.07 million.

The suspect was later found and handed over to Champhai Police Station and Zokhawthar Customs Department for further legal proceedings.  Additionally, on June 30, Assam Rifles recovered heroin and cigarettes of foreign origin worth Rs 2.07 crore in Zote and Zokhawthar of Champhai district.

On 30 June, Serchhip Battalion 23 Sector Assam Rifles, supervised by the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), achieved recovery. Acting on specific information, a team comprising Assam Rifles, Customs Department and other sister agencies conducted the operation.

“In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the auspices of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) recovered 125 grams of Heroin No. 4 and 92 cases of cigarettes of foreign origin with a total Core value of Rs 2.07 in general Zote and Zokhawthar Champhai areas on June 30, 2023,” an official statement said.
