WB CM Mamata Banerjee criticized the BJP during a virtual meeting, indirectly referring to the political crisis in Maharashtra
She compared joining the BJP to a washing machine that "cleanses" individuals, alleging corruption cases against those who don't align with the party, further accused the BJP of promoting division in Bengal and criticized the central government for withholding MNREGA dues
She defended Anubrata Mandal, a jailed Trinamool leader, and pledged to visit Birbhum after the elections
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) amidst the political turmoil in Maharashtra.
Without directly mentioning Ajit Pawar or Sharad Pawar, Banerjee referred to the issue of defections and said that joining the BJP is like a washing machine that turns everything white at a virtual meeting regarding the Panchayat election campaign in Dubrajpur, Birbhum.
Banerjee highlighted the political tussle in Maharashtra and alleged that those who do not align with the BJP face corruption cases, but when they join the BJP, they are "cleansed" in the washing machine. She further claimed that any party opposing both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP is threatened by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
After Ajit Pawar's rebellion in Maharashtra, Banerjee had reached out to Sharad Pawar and assured him of her support. In her recent address, she once again criticized the BJP from the Dubrajpur meeting. Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, also raised the issue of the crisis in Maharashtra in his meeting and attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being called corrupt in the past and now aligning with the same individuals.
In addition, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of promoting divisive forces in West Bengal, claiming that after destroying Manipur and Kashmir, the BJP is now encouraging division in Bengal. She asserted that Bengal will not be divided under any circumstances, despite the BJP's support for divisive groups in North Bengal and the Jangal Mahal area.
Banerjee also criticized the central government for not providing the dues of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) and argued that the money belongs to the state and is derived from taxes. She insisted that the state has the right to these funds.
Furthermore, Banerjee addressed the arrest of Anubrata Mandal, the Trinamool district president in Birbhum, who has been in jail for a year in connection with a case of cow smuggling. She defended him, stating that he has been falsely implicated and assured that she would visit Birbhum after the voting.
