The State Election Commission has clarified its stand on the deployment of central forces in the Panchayat elections. The State Election Commission on Monday told the Calcutta High Court that 822 companies of the Central Force will be deployed during the single-phase poll on July 8.
The Center also approved the remaining 485 companies out of 822 companies as per the state's requirement. The rest of the 485 companies of the Central Forces will come to the state. Along with this, the State Election Commission said that 4,834 polling stations have been declared sensitive.
The hearing of the contempt of court case in the Panchayat elections began at the Calcutta High Court on Monday. The commission submitted an affidavit before the bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnam.
During today's hearing, the Center told the court that the remaining 485 strength of the company is also being allocated. This means that 822 companies will be voted for in one round in Bengal. The opposition alleged that the State Election Commission did not deploy central forces as recommended by the court.
The commission stated that out of 61 thousand 636 booths, 4834 booths are sensitive. Additional armed forces were deployed in sensitive booths. But now it is not possible to put central power in every cubicle.
The commission said the center had talked about providing 337 companies. Of these, 113 company members have not yet arrived. But the center said it will come soon. He said the forces could be used as mobile units. There will be 5/6 people in the unit. Those with fewer sides will be watched on 6 stalls.
The state election commission said 224 out of 315 and 22 out of a total of 337 companies came. 113 companies have not yet arrived. So the question is, when will this company 485 arrive? It is therefore a question of how helpful these forces will be in ensuring the security of voters and in holding free and peaceful elections.
Explain that due to fears of violence in the state, the High Court has ordered the deployment of central forces. This order was challenged in the Supreme Court by the State Election Commission and the Mamta Banerjee government, but the challenge was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
