In a recent election meeting held in Purulia, West Bengal, Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over their political moves in Maharashtra.
Banerjee pointed out the alliance between BJP and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders, including Ajit Pawar, who had been involved in corruption cases. He accused the Prime Minister of being hypocritical in claiming to be the "guarantor against corruption" while forming alliances with allegedly corrupt politicians.
Banerjee questioned the lack of action against BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari, who had been implicated in a corruption case. He highlighted the fact that despite corruption allegations against these leaders, they were inducted into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to form the government in Maharashtra. Banerjee referred to the Prime Minister's previous statements about NCP being one of the most corrupt parties and the alleged scam of 73,000 crores associated with them, suggesting that the BJP's alliance with NCP leaders contradicted their earlier stance.
Furthermore, Banerjee criticized the BJP for not fulfilling their promises, citing the unfulfilled pledge of providing 15 lakhs to citizens. He contrasted this with the Trinamool Congress party president Mamata Banerjee, stating that she had kept her promises, such as implementing the Laxmi Bhandar scheme and other pro-people policies. He also accused the central government of withholding MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) funds from the state of West Bengal, depriving the people of their entitlements.
