A 27-year-old youth was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in Adityapur Muslim Bustee in Adityapur thana area of adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Sunday night.
The victim, identified as Firoz Khan, was roaming on the road near his house in Adityapur Muslim Bustee late at night when the criminals arrived on a bike and fled the scene when they shot him at close range.
On hearing the sound of gunshot, the residents of the locality came out of their houses and found Firoz writhing on the ground in a pool of blood. Some of them rushed the injured to the main Tata Hospital, a 10-minute drive from the site. Doctors at the emergency room pronounced the victim dead.
A shooting at the infamous Muslim Bustee in Adityapur has created a sensation and prompted the police to spring into action to nab the assailants.
Though there was no word from the Adityapur thana - which is a stone's throw from Adityapur's Muslim Bustee, relatives claimed that Firoz was warned of dire consequences by one Mohammed Khursheed.
"Firoz was warned not to get out of the bustee but was shot while moving on foot in his own locality." The man responsible for the murder must be Khursheed only because he warned the victim of dire consequences,” said a relative while talking to reporters.
It may be mentioned here that Adityapur Muslim Bustee is a center for the sale and supply of 'brown sugar' and other intoxicants.
Since more than one gang is involved in extortion, gang rivalry between drug traffickers and drug suppliers is always a source of concern for local residents and the police. A similar killing took place in the Adityapur Muslim Bustee four months ago, leading the police to vow to remove the 'brown sugar' menace from the bustee, but the problem remains the same as before.
