Union Cabinet approves 'One Nation, One Election' Bill: Reports
While several parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, are experiencing continuous rainfall, the scorching heat continues to prevail in the city.
According to a statement issued by the regional headquarters of the Meteorological Department at Alipore, Kolkata recorded 1.3 millimeters of rain in the past 24 hours. The cloudy sky and intermittent rainfall are expected to persist throughout the day on Sunday.
Despite the rainfall, temperatures in Kolkata remain high. The minimum temperature stands at 27.5 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above the normal average, while the maximum temperature is 33.2 degrees Celsius, also one degree above the normal average. The oppressive heatwave shows no signs of relenting.
The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for several districts, including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, and Birbhum. Additionally, regions in North Bengal, such as Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong, are expected to receive rainfall as well.
While other parts of the state are experiencing relief from the sweltering heat due to the rainfall, Kolkata's residents continue to endure the persisting heatwave. The intermittent rains provide temporary respite, but the high temperatures persist, creating discomfort for the city's inhabitants.
Residents are advised to take precautions and stay hydrated during this prolonged heatwave. The local authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and providing necessary alerts to the public. It is crucial for people to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and follow any safety guidelines issued by the Meteorological Department.
