The customs (export) commissioner for air cargo destroyed 326 kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic substances in the state capital.
According to an official statement, on June 27, over 19.52 kg of seized opium was handed over to the government's opium and akaloid factory in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, as part of the fight against illegal drug trade.
The destruction at the facility was approved by the Delhi Pollution Control Board (DPCB), it added.
“The destroyed consignments were contraband seized in 72 cases which included ganja, heroin, khat leaves, opium, ketamine and other NDPS substances. The seizure was largely made at the New Courier Terminal and the Foreign Post Office managed by the Commissioner of Air Transport (Export) of Customs, Delhi,” said a statement issued by the Customs Zone, Delhi.
"To date, in this financial year, the formation has disposed of a total of 415.415 kg of substances covered under the NDPS Act, 1985, which is worth more than ₹ 100 crore in the international open market," he added.
