The accused, Gufran, was a resident of Pratapgarh. He had over 13 criminal cases registered against him, which included seven cases of murder, attempted murder and looting.He was involved in criminal activities in Pratapgarh and Sultanpur districts for years.
STF acquired one 9mm carbine and 32 bore star gun from Gufran. A reward of ₹1 lakh was announced by Additional Director General of Prayagraj Zone (ADG) on the recommendation of Pratapgarh Police and Sultanpur Police announced a reward of ₹25,000.
STF ADG Amitabh Yash informed that a STF team led by Deputy SP DK Shahi encountered a gang of criminals at a deserted stretch near Kaushambi and one criminal sustained a bullet injury in retaliatory firing by police personnel.
He said the criminal was later identified as Gufran and succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
