PM Modi called for a deeper examination of the subject, accused certain political parties of misleading Muslims, and emphasized the importance of equal rights and a common civil code
In a recent public address to Bharatiya Janta Party workers in Bhopal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the need for a Uniform Civil Code and criticized those who advocate for triple talaq, stating that they are doing injustice to Muslim daughters.
During his speech, PM Modi questioned if Triple Talaq is necessary tenet of Islam, why Muslim-majority countries like Pakistan, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, do not practice it. The remarks came after he had flagged off five Vande Bharat Express trains earlier in the day, following his six-day visit to the United States and Egypt.
PM Modi mentioned his recent visit to Egypt where triple talaq was abolished nearly a century ago. PM Modi argued that if Islam indeed required triple talaq, then Muslim-majority countries would not have taken such actions. He expressed concern over the impact of triple talaq on entire families, stating that the practice not only affects Muslim daughters but also damages the family unit as a whole.
The Prime Minister called for a deeper examination of the subject and criticized those who support triple talaq for engaging in vote bank politics and appeasement, rather than considering the welfare of Muslim daughters. He accused certain political parties of misleading Muslims and emphasized the need for clarity regarding their intentions
Highlighting the importance of a Uniform Civil Code, PM Modi questioned whether a family can function smoothly with different rules for different family members. He referred to the guarantee of equal rights to all individuals in the Indian Constitution and cited the Supreme Court's push for the implementation of a common civil code.
He urged party workers to prioritize serving the people and emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not a party of dictatorial leaders but one that works tirelessly at the grassroots level.
