In a joint operation led by Indian Army jawans and police personnel, four terrorists were eliminated in the Kala Jungle of the Machhal sector in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation aimed to thwart the infiltration of foreign terrorists from the Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) region into Indian territory.
Security forces successfully neutralized the terrorists and recovered their bodies along with a cache of arms and ammunition. The identities of the slain terrorists are yet to be confirmed. This marks the second major infiltration attempt foiled by security forces in the past week.
Just last week, five Pakistani terrorists were killed in a fierce gunfight with security forces in Kupwara as they attempted to infiltrate into Indian territory. Major General Girish Kalia, speaking after the encounter, revealed that intelligence inputs indicated a significant number of terrorists were attempting to cross the border.
In a response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai disclosed that a total of 187 terrorists were killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in 2022. The region witnessed 125 terrorist incidents and 117 encounters during that year.
Similarly, in 2021, a total of 180 terrorists were eliminated, and 95 counter-terrorism operations were conducted in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
