Along with CBI and ED in West Bengal, another central agency National Investigation Agency (NIA) has now decided to increase its activities. Many cases of the NIA, which has been facing shortage of officers for a long time, are pending.
DG NIA Dinkar Gupta visited Kolkata recently. During that visit, cases of understaffing came to the fore. After that, it is now learned that new officers are coming to Kolkata in NIA.
During a visit to Kolkata, the DG said that the shortage of investigating officers would be removed as soon as possible. Adequate officers will be posted to Kolkata NIA. If the number of police officers increases, the speed of investigation and the quality of investigation will increase.
According to sources, the Kolkata branch of the NIA currently has 6 investigating officers including a DSP and an inspector. Each of them is burdened with at least two to three cases. As a result, officers have difficulty focusing on a specific case.
After taking over as CEO, Dinkar Gupta came to the Kolkata branch earlier this month and had a meeting with the officials. In addition to listening to the police officers there, he ordered the investigation to be expedited.
