Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
In a significant operation, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) exposed a fake currency printing factory located in the Howrah district, near Kolkata, West Bengal. The raid led to the arrest of two individuals identified as Sheikh Sameer (19) and Sheikh Arif (22), both residents of Bauria police station area in Howrah Rural.
According to CID officials, the raid resulted in the seizure of counterfeit notes worth three lakh rupees, all in the denomination of 500 rupees. The accused were apprehended near Bauria bus stand on Saturday afternoon, where fake notes were discovered during a search. Subsequently, they were taken to the local police station for further interrogation.
During the investigation, Sheikh Sameer confessed to printing the counterfeit notes at his residence. Following his statement, a search was conducted at his house in the Bauria police station area, leading to the recovery of laptops, printers, scanners, and lamination machines.
Both individuals will be presented in the Uluberia court later this afternoon to face charges related to the production and circulation of counterfeit currency.
