Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
Farmers in Dhupguri, located in Jalpaiguri district, staged a protest by throwing Ladyfinger in the local super market.
The reason behind their protest is the lack of demand for ladyfinger in the market, resulting in wholesale traders showing no interest in purchasing the vegetable. Frustrated by their unsold produce and inability to recover their expenses, the farmers resorted to throwing bags of ladyfinger on the road.
They expressed their grievances, stating that wholesalers don't even inquire about the prices. Despite their efforts to bring the okra to the market from various areas, the farmers faced losses and were forced to discard quintals of the vegetable. Some compassionate individuals were observed feeding the discarded okra to cows.
The farmers had to return home empty-handed due to the disappointing sales. Upon receiving news of the incident, the local police from Dhupguri police station arrived at the scene and engaged in discussions with the farmers in an attempt to pacify them.
