Australia crowned champions, become first team to win ICC world titles in all three formats

Australia achieved a historic milestone on June 11 by winning the final of the World Test Championship 2021-23 against India at the Oval in London.

They became the first men's cricket team to secure ICC world titles in all three formats of the game. Australia clinched the Test world championship by defeating India by 209 runs in a thrilling final.

Chasing a daunting target of 444 runs in the second innings, India faced a disastrous batting collapse on Day 5, losing seven wickets in a single session. Despite a promising start from Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli, their hopes of winning the maiden WTC mace were shattered when Scott Boland dismissed Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in quick succession.

Australia's triumph in the World Test Championship adds to their remarkable collection of ICC titles. They have now won every major ICC tournament in international cricket, a feat no other team has achieved. Australia's journey of dominance began in 1987 when they won their first ODI World Cup under the captaincy of Allan Border.

Since then, Australia has won four more ODI World Cups, two of them under Ricky Ponting's leadership. They also claimed their first Champions Trophy in 2006, followed by a second triumph in 2009. Australia secured their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2021, led by Aaron Finch. With this latest victory, Australia has now won a remarkable nine major ICC world titles, the highest by any team in cricket history.
