In the wake of the murder of a Congress worker in Khargram, Murshidabad, the political landscape in the state of West Bengal has been shaken.
The incident has triggered a wave of criticism against the ruling party ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections. So far, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder, while the primary accused, Rafiq, remains on the run. The family of the deceased alleges that all those arrested are affiliated with the Trinamool Congress party.
State Congress President, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, visited the home of the slain Congress worker, Phulchand Sheikh, in Ratanpur-Naldwip village. Chaudhary openly accused "government" individuals of being responsible for Phulchand's murder. He also demanded increased security measures for the residents of the village from the local administration. However, Trinamool leaders in Murshidabad disputed Chaudhary's claims, asserting that the killing was the result of a dispute within the village.
Chaudhary expressed his anger and frustration with the ruling party and the state administration during a press conference, stating that the poor families of Bengal were being subjected to cruel atrocities in the name of the panchayat elections. He highlighted the need for accountability and called for answers regarding the violence perpetrated against innocent civilians.
The incident has intensified the political climate in the region, with Chaudhary leading a protest march in Khargram to voice his concerns. In response, Apoorba Sarkar, the Acting President of the Bahrampur Organizational District Trinamool, dismissed Chaudhary's comments, attributing the murder to a family dispute rather than political motives.
