Sharad Pawar, the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), appointed his daughter Supriya Sule and senior party leader Praful Patel as working presidents.
His nephew Ajit Pawar congratulated the newly elected leaders, dispelling rumors of his dissatisfaction. Ajit Pawar is expected to play a significant role in Maharashtra politics and potentially become the chief minister if the NCP secures more seats than its allies in the 2024 assembly elections.
Sharad Pawar clarified that he suggested Sule's name as the working president and will focus on his role as the Leader of the Opposition.
The announcement was made on the NCP's 24th foundation anniversary.
