Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
A confrontation ensued between Bangladeshi smugglers and Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers in the Mekhliganj region, resulting in the death of a Bangladeshi smuggler. The incident took place near the Miliropa BOP in Jamaldah Sarkarpada, situated on the Indian border.
Around 2 am on Monday, a group of 10-15 Bangladeshi individuals attempted to breach the Indian border by cutting the fence. When confronted by BSF soldiers, the smugglers launched an attack with sharp weapons, prompting the BSF to fire seven rounds in self-defense.
BSF and Border Guard Force (BGB) have heightened security along the border following the incident. The BSF has been actively engaged in preventing smuggling activities, but political disputes have arisen regarding their actions. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused the central government of utilizing the BSF for political gains.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred. Previous instances of firing by the BSF have led to casualties and allegations of smuggling involvement. The incidents in Matabhanga, Sittai, and Mekhliganj have raised concerns about the use of force by the BSF and its implications in the smuggling trade.
