In a significant development, the director of a chit fund company, who had evaded authorities and fled to Dubai, was apprehended by the police upon his arrival at Kolkata airport.
The accused, identified as Abhijeet Dutta, had been on the run after cheating numerous investors by promising high profits. The police had issued a lookout circular against him, leading to his arrest.
According to ASP Rahul Dev Sharma, the directors of the Rose Valley Company had enticed investors in the district with lucrative returns. However, instead of repaying the investors, they closed down the company and vanished. Torwa police station received complaints from the affected investors, prompting an investigation into the case of cheating.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Abhijeet Dutta, a Kolkata resident and the company's director, had fled to Dubai. A lookout circular was issued by the police to track him down. On May 27, the absconding director returned to Kolkata from Dubai, unaware that the authorities were aware of his arrival.
Acting swiftly, the police took him into custody at the airport itself. The news of his apprehension was relayed to the district headquarters. SP Santosh Kumar Singh dispatched a team from Torwa police to Kolkata. The team escorted the accused to the Barrackpore Court in Kolkata, where he was produced.
The court, considering the circumstances, granted the accused bail. However, he has been instructed to appear in the Bilaspur court by June 12 for further proceedings.
