In a significant development, the iconic Howrah Bridge in Kolkata is set to undergo a comprehensive health check. The news was revealed by Mr. Rathindra Raman, the newly appointed Chairman of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port Kolkata (SMP), during a presentation highlighting the port's activities and future plans.
The Howrah Bridge, known for its architectural grandeur and historical significance, is currently undergoing the process of laying a new layer of road. This maintenance work aims to ensure the bridge's structural integrity and enhance its overall condition for the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
In addition to the Howrah Bridge, the authorities are also focusing on the renovation of the Baskell Bridge located in Khidirpur. With an estimated budget of Rs 71 crore, the restoration project aims to revitalize the bridge and improve its functionality.
During the announcement, Mr. Rathindra Raman was joined by Vice President SMP Haldia, AK Mehra, and Vice President Kolkata, Samrat Rahi. Their presence underscored the significance of these infrastructure projects and the commitment of SMP towards maintaining and enhancing the city's vital transportation networks.
