Meteorological Department claims Bengal will not be affected by cyclone, possibility of light rain

The threat of cyclonic storm Mocha in the Bay of Bengal has been averted from West Bengal. The Meteorological Department made it clear on Friday that the cyclone will not have much effect on India's coastal states of West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

At around 5:00 am on Friday, the cyclonic storm is located 520 km west-northwest of Port Blair, 1010 km from Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar and 930 km from the coast at Sittwe in Myanmar. At present, it is moving towards the coastal areas at a speed of nine kilometers. Basically, it is expected to hit Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar and Myanmar's Sittwe coastal region on May 14 afternoon.

The wind speed with the cyclone can be 150 to 175 kilometers per hour, due to which there is a possibility of heavy destruction in both these countries. Under its influence, there will be rain in the coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh along with West Bengal. Its axis is passing through Jharkhand, so light rain may occur in some parts of Jharkhand and Bihar as well. However, there is no possibility of loss of life or property.

Here, the temperature of West Bengal is continuously increasing. In a statement issued by the Meteorological Department on Friday, it has been told that the minimum temperature in Kolkata has been recorded at 28.7 degree Celsius, while the maximum temperature recorded a day earlier has been 38.1 degree Celsius. Even today the temperature will remain between 30 degree to 39 degree.

Due to this, along with the capital Kolkata, there is going to be severe heat in the wide areas of South Bengal including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura and other parts of the state. Heat wave will also prevail in many districts of the state.
