The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has begun an investigation into the riots that occurred during the Ram Navami procession in West Bengal following the instructions of the High Court.
The central agency has registered six First Information Reports (FIRs) in this regard. The riots had erupted in some parts of the state during the processions from Shivpur to Risada. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in court regarding the matter, and on April 27, the Chief Justice Court TS Shivagnam ordered the NIA to investigate the incident
. According to NIA sources, the agency will submit a report in court on Thursday under the supervision of a DIG rank police officer in Kolkata.
The NIA officials will take over the investigation from the state police, as per the court's orders.
