Income Tax conducts searches at premises linked to West Bengal MLA Krishna Kalyani

The Income Tax Department conducted a raid at the house of Krishna Kalyani, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Raiganj assembly seat in North Dinajpur district, on Wednesday.

The officials, along with CISF personnel, also searched Kalyani's various factories and business establishments. The MLA was present at home during the search operation. Additionally, officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also arrived to conduct a search operation. Reports suggest that documents related to Kalyani's business are being obtained.

The raid began on Wednesday morning when a joint team of Income Tax and ED officials arrived together. A contingent of central paramilitary forces was deployed around Kalyani's house for security, and all the doors of the house were locked from inside to prevent anyone from entering or leaving. The local police were also present outside to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, the Income Tax officials also raided the house of the MLA's factory manager at Netajipally in Raiganj. Operations were conducted at different places based on the information received.

ED officials also reached Siliguri while searching for details of Krishna Kalyani. The officials raided the headquarters of a multinational company in Siliguri, where it is believed that Kalyani has invested.

Krishna Kalyani won the 2021 election from Raiganj on a BJP ticket but later announced his decision to leave BJP and join Trinamool. He is seen in Trinamool's programs and was recently seen in Abhishek Banerjee's Navjoar program. Presently, he is the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Legislative Assembly and a well-known businessman.

Kalyani's elder brother, Pradeep Kalyani, stated that the Income Tax Department had been conducting raids at various business establishments, including the MLA's house, since Wednesday morning, and they were not allowed inside during the operation. Further details about the ongoing operation are yet to be disclosed.
