Thailand announces e-visa for Indians from Jan 1, 60-day exemption to continue
State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary has demanded a CBI inquiry into the Kaliaganj incident, a case involving the torture and murder of two minors in the North Dinajpur district of West Bengal.
Chaudhary, who arrived at Bagdogra Airport from Delhi on Saturday, immediately left for Kaliaganj. Before departing for the crime scene, he addressed the media at the airport and condemned the incident, saying that it clearly shows the collapse of the legal system in the state. He further added that incidents of torture and murder of minors in Bengal districts are increasing, and the way police have acted in the name of action is beyond words.
Chaudhary demanded a CBI investigation, and said that the families of the victims of the Kaliaganj incident should be given an opportunity to meet. He also commented on the removal of Calcutta High Court Justice Abhijeet Ganguly from a recruitment corruption case, alleging that the West Bengal government wanted to control the judge, who revealed the facts of corruption in the state.
The Kaliaganj incident has caused widespread outrage in the state, with several political leaders and civil society groups demanding justice for the victims. The two minors, aged 14 and 16, were allegedly abducted, tortured, and murdered by a group of men on April 23. The incident came to light after a video of the torture was circulated on social media.
The police have arrested several suspects in connection with the case and have launched a probe. However, Chaudhary's demand for a CBI inquiry suggests a lack of faith in the state police's investigation.
