Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday joined a growing chorus of voices in support of wrestlers alleging sexual harassment by national federation chief Brije Bhushan Sharan Singh, who called the athletes "the pride of our nation" and demanded justice for them.
The Trinamool Congress National President also called on the nation to join the protesting wrestlers and ensure that "the culprits (are) brought to book...irrespective of their political affiliation"; the last bit was a blow to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party as Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is a BJP Lok Sabha MP from Kaiserganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
"We must all stand with the wrestlers who are protesting. They speak with one voice. Our athletes are the pride of our nation. They are champions. The guilty must be brought to justice, regardless of political affiliation. Justice must prevail. The truth." must win,” the Bengal chief minister tweeted.
