West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered local private clubs to monitor the activities of the Border Security Force (BSF) in the state, creating a political controversy.
Banerjee and her party, Trinamool Congress, have been accusing the BSF of political bias for several days.
During a recent administrative meeting in Naban, Banerjee suggested activating local clubs to prevent "excesses" by the BSF.
The move has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who say it undermines the authority of the BSF and could lead to vigilantism.
