Vidyasagar Setu, a prominent bridge in Kolkata, will be closed for repair work on Saturday and Sunday nights, causing traffic diversions for the affected vehicles.
The repair work will take place from 12 am on Saturday until 6 am on the same day, and on April 30, from 11 pm to 5 am the following day. The closure is necessary to conduct cable testing and repair work on the bridge.
To ensure minimal disruption to traffic flow, police chiefs from Howrah, Barrackpore, Diamond Harbor districts, and Kolkata held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss how vehicles will be diverted during the closure period. According to a police official, all goods lorries traveling from Behala-Alipur via Vidyasagar Setu will be rerouted through Nivedita Setu via Dharmatala, Chittaranjan Avenue, Shyambazar Panch Matha Mor, Tala Bridge, and BT Road.
Similarly, trucks from Tollygunge-Bhawanipur direction will be directed to Nivedita Setu via Exide and Dharmatala using the same route. Small vehicles will not be allowed to climb the bridge and will be redirected through Strand Road and Howrah Bridge.
