NIA uncovers Jaish-e-Mohammed link in Arambagh, raids home of suspected terrorist
Former BJP leader and current TMC leader, Mukul Roy, is facing political uncertainty and personal allegations as he attempts to navigate his return to the Trinamool Congress. Roy, who won the assembly elections on a BJP ticket in 2019, returned to the TMC in June 2021, only to face challenges from both parties.
Recently, Roy's political future has been further complicated by allegations from his son, Shubhranshu Roy, who claims that his father is mentally ill and unfit to serve as an MLA. Shubhranshu filed a police complaint of "missing" and "abduction" of his father.
The allegations of mental instability have put Mukul Roy's position as an MLA in question. As per the rules, a person who is mentally unwell cannot serve as an MLA. Following the allegations, Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee has stated that he will take action if a formal complaint is filed.
Banerjee has indicated that he would send Roy for a medical evaluation to determine his mental health status, and based on the report, he would take the necessary steps to remove Roy from his position as an MLA, if needed.
The situation has created a dilemma for both the TMC and BJP, neither of which wants to accept Roy. He has been trying to return to the BJP, but the party has shown no interest in taking him back. Meanwhile, the TMC has also distanced itself from Roy due to his alleged mental instability. The recent turn of events has left Roy's political future uncertain, and the outcome is likely to affect both the TMC and BJP.
