Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
A meeting was recently held between Governor Dr CV Anand Bose and prominent educationists in West Bengal, including literary figures Narsingh Prasad Bhaduri, Sukant Chowdhary, and Shubhankar Sarkar.
The discussion was held amidst ongoing tension between the governor and the state government, which has sought direct reports from vice-chancellors of universities and has conducted visits to several universities.
Although no official information has been released by the Raj Bhavan, sources have revealed that the meeting focused on the new education policy. Discussions centered on the policy's positive aspects, shortcomings, and how it can be implemented in West Bengal. The state government has opposed the policy, accusing it of attempting to saffronize the education system.
However, the governor has been advocating for its implementation through various forums.
Apart from the new education policy, the meeting also covered topics such as distance learning and the poor condition of state libraries. Education Minister Bratya Basu recently criticized the governor, stating that he was working outside his constitutional scope regarding his visits to universities. Basu also emphasized that for him, the chief minister is the chancellor of all universities in the state, not the governor.
