Kolkata and surrounding areas in South Bengal are experiencing a severe heat wave, with temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius in the second week of April. The scorching heat and humid conditions have made it difficult for people to step out of their homes. The Meteorological Department has declared this as the hottest day of the season, with Kolkata recording a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, which is four notches above normal. This is also the highest temperature recorded this season so far. In addition, the minimum temperature in the area is at 28 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees more than normal.
The heat wave has affected a wide area of Jangalmahal, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, North and South Dinajpur, leading to heat wave conditions. The situation has been prevailing in all these districts since last Wednesday, with hot winds exacerbating the heat wave. The people in these areas are facing a miserable condition due to the scorching heat.
As the heat wave continues to persist, it is crucial for people to take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy. This includes staying hydrated, avoiding direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and wearing light-colored and loose-fitting clothes. The authorities have also urged people to avoid stepping out of their homes unnecessarily during the hottest part of the day
