Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
A massive fire erupted on Tuesday morning in a wooden godown located in Kolkata's Bansdroni area, leading to the destruction of the entire structure.
According to local sources, the fire started at around 11:00 am and spread rapidly due to the presence of large amounts of inflammable material inside the godown. Although no casualties were reported, the fire caused extensive damage to the densely populated area. The fire department's prompt action, with the help of 15 fire engines, brought the flames under control after four hours of continuous efforts.
The market, situated in Brahmapur in Garia, was surrounded by multi-storeyed houses, which made the situation even more challenging for the firefighters. The godown had tin walls, making it difficult for water to reach the source of the fire through the wooden and tin barrier.
The fire brigade personnel first tried to stop the fire from spreading to the neighboring flats, but due to the intensity of the flames, they had to evacuate the nearby residences.
Upon receiving information about the fire, Minister and local MLA Arup Vishwas reached the spot and took control of the situation. Minister Arup Biswas praised the efforts of the local boys who helped in extinguishing the fire despite the danger to their lives. Fire Minister Sujit Bose also arrived at the scene to supervise the dousing process.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the events leading up to the incident.
