Seven more tested positive for Covid in Bihar

The state registered another seven cases of Covid-19 on Thursday. Of these, three were from Patna, two from Saharsa and one each from Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi. This has taken the number of active cases in the state to 25 so far, including 19 in Patna district alone, which is 76% of the total number of active cases.

According to data shared by the health department, Bihar had registered six new cases a day earlier and all of them were from Patna. However, all active cases in the state are asymptomatic and in home isolation. Of the total number of active cases, 19 are men and six are women, with the youngest being 19 and the oldest 65.

The seven new cases in Bihar were reported on a day when the country recorded its highest single-day tally in six months, with 3,017 people testing positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. Now, the number of active cases in the country has reached 13,512. Bihar was ranked 21 on Thursday, while Kerala had the highest single-day tally with 686 cases, followed by Maharashtra (483), Gujarat (401), Delhi (300), Himachal Pradesh (255) and Karnataka (215).

A health ministry official said that while the situation in Bihar is not yet alarming, previous experience has shown that the state is witnessing an increase after places like Maharashtra, Delhi, and Karnataka reach a peak and start showing a downward trend. “People are coming from these places every day, so it is up to us to follow all the precautions,” the official said.

Health Ministry Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, who is also the chief executive officer of the state health corporation, said the ministry is currently testing 28,000 samples per day, which will increase to 40,000 per day in the next two days.
