Calcutta HC orders CBI probe into attack on Union minister Nisith Pramanik

The Calcutta High Court has ordered a CBI inquiry into the attack on Union Home Minister Nisith Pramanik. Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava rejected the state government's appeal and ordered a CBI inquiry.

The Court has handed over the investigation into the attack on Nisith Pramanik's car to the CBI. A division bench of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava gave this order on Tuesday.

Before this, the High Court had also directed the state government and the police station to submit the case diary. Let us tell you that a few days back the incident took place in Cooch Behar's Dinhata on the convoy of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nisith Pramanik. There was a lot of ruckus about this attack.

Bombs, bullets and stones were allegedly hurled at Nisith Pramanik's convoy. The BJP had questioned the law and order situation in the state and filed a case in the court.

The court said that it should be investigated whether there is a deep conspiracy behind the incident or not. Significantly, Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, had approached the Calcutta High Court regarding the attack on the convoy of BJP MP and Union Minister Nisith Pramanik.

The leader of the opposition party demanded that there should be a CBI inquiry into the incident. He appealed to the court that what would happen to the common people if the vehicle of a Union Minister of State was attacked like this. The CBI appealed that argument. Because, the petitioner said, if the State Police investigates, it would not be clear who the accused really are.

In this regard, BJP's All India Vice President Dilip Ghosh said, "The way law and order is deteriorating in West Bengal, bombs and guns are being found everywhere. Then if there is no security for the Union Minister, then it has to be accepted that the situation is worse than in Afghanistan. Naturally, it should be resolved and the court is taking it seriously. I hope that the state government will also be vigilant about the law and order situation."
