Gangster and former Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator Atiq Ahmed, who is currently lodged in Sabarmati jail, will be brought to Prayagraj for trial in the Umesh Pal murder case. A team of 45 police officers arrived at Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad to escort Ahmed, who is the main accused in the murder case.
The police team will receive Ahmed on Sunday evening and will reach Prayagraj on Monday. Ahmed's court appearance is scheduled for Monday, according to the report.
Earlier, the former SP MLA approached the Supreme Court saying that he may be killed in a fake encounter. He also asked for interrogation in Ahmedabad.
Umesh Pal, the main witness to the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, was shot dead on 24 February.
Earlier this month, one Arbaaz, who was allegedly one of the accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, was killed in an encounter with the police. City officials also demolished the house of Ahmed's aide, citing civil rights violations.
