Two men were arrested on Friday for allegedly smuggling drugs from Odisha to Noida through the railways, police said, adding that the accused had hidden 25 kilograms of cannabis worth Rs 4 lakh in the ceiling of the washroom of the train.
According to the police, the two accused are Lal Singh (25), a resident of Bihar's Chapra, and Jay Singh, a resident of the Jaunpur district.
"The two boarded the Kalinga Utkal Express from Puri, Odisha and suffocated in one of the washrooms so that no one could use it. Using tools, they opened the ceiling of the toilet and stuck drug packets there. They then closed the ceiling and continued to guard the washroom for the duration of the train journey, which it took almost two days,” said Sujeet Upadhyay, station house officer, at Dadri police station.
They alighted at Ghaziabad railway station on Friday and took a local train towards Dadri, the SHO added.
"Acting on a tip-off, police teams reached Dadri railway station on Friday morning and nabbed two suspects with 25 kg of drugs. Lal Singh is a piece of history and has already been in jail six times," the officer said.
