SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
The normally trouble-free trip you take from Cathedral Road to Tollygunge next month may be delayed for almost two weeks. The major Kali Temple Road-Sadananda Road intersection will be closed for about two weeks by Kolkata Traffic Police so that KMC can finish installing the pilings for the skywalk's lift. It is anticipated that the 10-day initial blockade would begin on April 7. According to police, this was the last road obstacle needed to construct the skywalk.
"KMC had originally requested a blockade for 12–14 days. We promised to offer them a blockage for 10 days. This can be prolonged if necessary," a senior Lalbazar official stated. But, police will begin preparing for the roadblock this weekend itself as it is anticipated to put pressure on SP Mukherjee Road's Hazra crossing.
"Sadananda Road is used by at least 70%–80% of the traffic on Harish Mukherjee Road, allowing easy access to Mudiali and Tollygunge. After it's blocked, all traffic will turn in the direction of Hazra. We have asked KMC to permit access to at least one lane, particularly in the evening, despite the fact that KMC claims the barrier is required to set up a crane," a senior officer remarked.
Tollygunge and Bhowanipore traffic guards have been requested to work together to create a roadmap for executing this blockade. "The modalities are currently being developed. However, we'll need to designate more areas around Sadananda Road as no-parking zones," a Bhowanipore Traffic Guard official stated.
Police asked KMC brass to allow citizens to move along parts of Sadananda Road and Kali Temple Road during the examination. After considering the initial response, the officer continued, "We will reset the signal cycle at the Hazra crossing."
