SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, accused in the teacher recruitment corruption case, raised slogans during his court appearance on Thursday.
Partha Chatterjee has once again sought bail claiming his innocence. Seven people including Partha were heard in court on Thursday in the recruitment case. However, Partha was not brought in the same vehicle as the rest of the accused. Partha was brought to the court premises in a separate car from the jail.
As soon as they got out of the car, sloganeering started around them. The people present there started shouting slogans claiming Partha 'thief' when they saw Partha Chatterjee. An angry mob gathered in the area was also heard saying, "He should be burned, he should be hanged."
A middle-aged man was also seen shouting slogans along with many youths around Partha. The middle-aged protester also accused Partha of sending money abroad. However, no one disclosed their identity.
On Thursday, Partha Chatterjee, dressed in Punjabi, walked straight from the police car and turned around on the steps of the court entrance, saying, "I didn't want to do corruption. Shubhendu Adhikari, Dilip Ghosh and Sujan Chakraborty appointed their men in North Bengal and had given a list of names for recruitment.I refused them saying, I am not an employer, I cannot do anything."
