Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
After a lengthy search, Lalabazar detectives have recovered the body of missing Tangra youth Jhunu Rana (33) from the KLC police station area. The police found the body in a blue drum on a wooden bridge in Bamanghata. Four individuals have already been arrested in connection with the incident, with Ghulam Rabbani and a woman being apprehended in Delhi, and Sheikh Riaz and Imran being arrested in Kolkata.
Jhunu's brother Vijay Rana filed a complaint with the Tangra police station two days after Jhunu's disappearance on March 3. Vijay's allegation was that Jhunu had gone out with a man named Ghulam Rabbani, with CCTV footage being handed over to the police. The Rana family later approached Lalbazar with their complaints, stating that the police had not acted on their report. However, Ghulam Rabbani was eventually arrested in Delhi.
The family claims that Jhunu only knew Rabbani for a short time, while Rabbani claimed that there was a personal problem between them. Police sources suggest that the incident is the result of Rabbani's anger, with him admitting to dumping the body in the canal during interrogation. One of Rabbani's uncles is also alleged to have cooperated in the incident. The body was recovered from the blue drum and appeared to be covered in dirt.
The police have stated that the full details of the incident will only be revealed after a post-mortem examination.
