Three youths in their twenties have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in a village under Dhoraiya police station in Banka district, police said on Saturday.
The minor girl, who is said to be a resident of the neighbouring state of Jharkhand, was friends with all the three accused on social media platforms and came to meet them without informing their family members. The accused were arrested late on Friday evening.
Banka SP Dr Satya Prakash said the incident took place on the night of March 16 and came to light after the rape victim somehow managed to reach the Dhoraiya police station and described the incident, besides lodging an FIR against the three youths on March 17.
The accused have been identified as Niteesh Kumar, Sadashiv Mandal (Niteesh's cousin) and their friend Vikash Kumar, all residents of the same police station area.
(The victim's identity has not been released to protect her privacy under Supreme Court guidelines on sexual assault cases)
