SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
A man has been arrested for forcing a realtor to cough up Rs 60 lakh as extortion and threatening to kill him in an "attack similar to the one on Umesh Pal".
Police said the victim had been receiving extortion calls since March 4 but lodged an FIR after receiving a death threat on Tuesday. The complainant, Natwar Goel of Vivek Khand in Gomtinagar, told the police that he got a call while he was going to the airport.
“The caller introduced himself as Imtiaz and demanded an extortion of Rs 60 lakh. He told me that he was from Kareli in Prayagraj and claimed that mafia politicians Mukhtar Ansari and Atiq Ahmad were impressed by his criminal activities,” Goel said.
DCP, South Zone, Rahul Raj said an FIR has been lodged under sections 386 (extortion) and 507 (criminal intimidation through anonymous communication).
