Magnitude 7.1 earthquake strikes NZ’s Kermadec Islands

Magnitude 7.1 earthquake strikes NZ’s Kermadec Islands

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands region of New Zealand on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, as per reports.

The quake was estimated at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), the USGS added.

Meanwhile, the US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami warning for inhabited islands within 300 km of the earthquake.

However, the National Emergency Management Agency said there was no tsunami threat to New Zealand following the earthquake in the South Kermadec Islands.
