The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has searched the homes of eight accused in a case related to last year's Naxal attack on former BJP MLA Gurucharan Nayak in Jharkhand that left two policemen dead, an official said on Wednesday.
In July last year, the NIA was tasked with investigating the attack that took place on January 4 at the Jhilrua school ground in West Singhbhum district. The armed cadre of CPI (Maoist) also looted the weapons of the slain personnel.
“All the eight suspects whose premises were searched on Tuesday are active members of the Maoist support network. They assisted CPI (Maoist) action team members and provided logistical support to armed CPI (Maoist) cadres in launching the attack on the former MLA,” said an NIA spokesperson.
During the searches, the official said several CPI (Maoist) posters, documents related to the illegal state of Kolhan, digital devices and various other incriminating documents were found and seized.
On January 1, the NIA filed a supplementary chargesheet against the 14 accused in the case.
