SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Lawyer Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya has taken the initiative to file a contempt of court case against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, drawing the attention of Justice TS Shivagnanam. The judge has suggested filing the affidavit by Thursday.
This comes after a complaint was filed in the Alipore court regarding some of the Chief Minister's recent comments about job cancellations. Specifically, complaints have been made about several parts of her speech, including her remarks to Justice Subrata Talukder, who was present at the event.
In response to the job cancellations, Mamata Banerjee said, "This is my personal opinion, please don't take away the job so easily." Bhattacharya's case also involves pending recruitment cases for Group C, Group D, Primary, and IX-X before the Division Bench of Justice Subrata Talukdar.
“I would urge (the Calcutta high court), not to sack people at the drop of a hat. This is not politics. You may not like me, my party, or my government. You may curse me and hit me. I won’t mind. But please don’t malign the state and snatch the rights of youths and students. If I have done any wrong and you slap me, I won’t mind,” she said in Kolkata, adding that two persons have died by suicide (after losing jobs).
