Police on Monday seized 1.05 kilograms of cannabis along with cash of over Rs 12 lakh from the house and arrested one person from Nai Basti locality under the jurisdiction of Transport Nagar police station in Meerut.
The accused has been identified as a 54-year-old woman, Saashi, a resident of Transport Nagar. According to Circle Officer Suchit Singh, the accused has been dealing in narcotics for a long time and has been booked twice under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
After serving time in prison, the accused resumed smuggling after quitting. Her modus operandi was to buy drugs from a dealer and then sell them on a daily basis in the market. She used to store cash in her house and hence a large amount of money was recovered, Singh added.
In a similar case, Haji Tasleem, a drug smuggler who operated in a nearby region, was caught. He collected valuables worth crores of rupees. He is currently in jail after a case was filed against him under the NDPS Act.
