Police have arrested a woman who doused her 27-year-old boyfriend with cooking oil for cheating in Tamil Nadu's Erode.
Police said the victim, Karthi, was a resident of Varnapuram in Bhavani and worked in a private firm in Perundurai, adding that he was in a relationship with one of his relatives, Meena Devi, and had promised to marry her.
However, after learning that Meena Devi was getting engaged to another woman, Devi confronted him and the issue led to frequent arguments between them, police said.
Police said on Saturday that when Karthi went to meet Devi, the arguments escalated, resulting in Devi pouring boiling oil on Karthi. Karthi fell on the ground and his hands and face caught fire. When neighbours heard him calling for help, they came to his rescue and took him to the hospital.
The police arrested Meena Devi and started an investigation.
